What is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR is a highly effective, evidence-based therapy for healing trauma. It helps the brain process and release distressing memories that may have become “stuck,” often leading to symptoms like anxiety, flashbacks, or emotional numbness.
Through guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation, EMDR allows your brain to reprocess traumatic events in a safe and contained way, reducing their emotional charge, and helping you move forward with more freedom and clarity.
What to expect in EMDR Therapy:
At Light Within Therapy, EMDR sessions are guided with care, collaboration, and a deep respect for your pace and readiness.
Together, we’ll explore which memories or experiences feel important to begin reprocessing. If you’re not sure where to start, that’s completely okay—part of our role is to help you gently identify where your system is ready to go. You’ll never be pushed or rushed. This process unfolds with your consent and in partnership.
Once a target memory is identified, we’ll guide you through the reprocessing phase step by step. Using bilateral stimulation—such as eye movements or tapping—we’ll support your brain in accessing and integrating the memory in a way that reduces its emotional charge and allows healing to take place.
